Happy 5th Birthday, James!

It’s birthday time! James is five years old today!

We have many fun things planned for the weekend. He has opened two presents this morning – a bunny magnet playset from Alphabet Alley and a DVD with 20 classic Howdy Doody episodes. (I had a real Howdy Doody doll when I was about 10, and James has been fascinated by the photos of him. He’s going to love the video!)

We’ll be frying donuts in honor of his special day today. He will also be playing his first t-ball game this afternoon.

His birthday party will be tomorrow after church – complete with rainbow birthday cake and parrot pinata. It’s supposed to be beautiful weather, and we’re planning an outdoor party.

Like I did for Nicholas and Robert, I’d like to share a photo-a-year from James’ life.

Fireman James was about four months old in this picture.

In each of these photos, James is about 18-19 months old. At the dinner table,
he would raise both arms in the air and then stare at the rest of us
until we would do it too. We called it, “Arms up!”

He would also fall asleep at the dinner table a couple times a week. He quit taking naps at 17 months because I couldn’t get him to go to sleep at night if he had a nap during the day. Some days were so tiring, I guess, that he fell asleep at the table.

He also liked to play in the dryer. He and Nicholas called it their skunk hole.
(And no I never shut the door on them.)

James’ second birthday was the first that we celebrated in West Virginia. We loved to go swimming at the indoor pool at the local rec center.

When James turned three, we had dinner at Cracker Barrel
and they brought him an ice cream dessert.

For his fourth birthday, we tried to have an outdoor party, but after we’d set everything up and carried everything out, it started to rain. So we had to run everything back in. James got his first bicycle that day.

Five years old! He’s reading small books, playing t-ball,
and learning to use the computer.

Happy Birthday, James!
