During his All About Spelling lessons, Nick does a “writing station” exercise that gives him five words that he must use to create a story. Today he came up with a … well … creative use of the five words in a ten-word story.
Usually, I’d make him write it over, make it more sophisticated … or at least longer. But this one made me laugh.
The words were:
- wrapped
- presliced
- uncooked
- eight
- ate
His story:
I ate eight wrapped, presliced, uncooked hotdogs. Then I honked.

Great job Nick! I love your sentence.
That is a great idea. (I wonder what my kids would come up with.)
I'll have to try that.
Cindy, that's so funny! I was just thinking how my 9-year-old would enjoy an activity like that. Being a girl, she would probably write a long story and I'd have to tell her that she needed to wrap it up so she could get to her other work. Boys, on the other hand, usually like to write the absolutely least that they can get away with. At least if he just wrote one sentence it was a great one!
