Four Foods on Friday #64

Four Foods on Friday

#1. What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever made with bread? Dog food. Several years ago, I had a notion to feed our dog Riley a natural diet. (I could sound like a really energetic “green” pet owner, but the truth is that we were out of dog food and couldn’t buy any until pay day. I had to do something to feed the poor guy!) The recipe I found included bread torn into small pieces and mixed up with vegetables, meat, and I don’t remember what else. It looked like garbage to me, but Riley gobbled it right up. It only took him five minutes to eat what had taken me three hours to prepare.

#2. What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever done with mac and cheese or pasta? We attempted eating spaghetti with only butter and garlic on it for a while, but it just made me feel funny. And hungry.

#3. Is there a food you eat other then it is intended? I absolutely love to sprinkle Parmesan cheese on a slice of bread and butter. There is just something about the combo that is delish!

Heiner's French Italian BreadI first discovered it when I was about ten years old. I was eating spaghetti with my Mama one day. We always ate Heiner’s French Italian bread with spaghetti. Well, I was sprinkling the Parmesan cheese onto my spaghetti and little bit fell onto my bread by accident. When I took a bite…wowza! It was so good, I was hooked.

Every single person (except my parents who think I’m crazy) I’ve ever told about bread and butter and Parmesan cheese tries it and falls in love. Honest. Try it.

Now I usually eat it on whole wheat bread, but I still occasionally treat myself to a loaf of Heiner’s French Italian, yum!

#4. What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever seen? Hmm. I’m quite a picky selective eater so I think that many, many foods look weird. That’s a hard question for me to answer. Oh, wait, I know now. It’s that cowboy stew my husband Jon makes. It looks weird and it smells weird. It’s just a combination of hamburger meat, noodles, and maybe something else. But it just looks really really weird. And smells weird.
